My Story

It Started With a Love for Dogs...

Hello, I’m Freya, the proud owner and founder of Fur By Freya.

My journey to becoming a groomer started right after I left school, with a Saturday job in a local salon where I learned the fundamentals of bathing and drying and quickly realised I had a true passion for working with dogs.

This passion led me to Hopwood Hall College for my City & Guilds qualification in Animal Care, and then at 19, I furthered my skills at the prestigious Canine Groom School to gain my International Certified Groomer (ICMG) qualification.

After a 4-month adventure working as a horseback riding counsellor at a camp in North Carolina USA in the summer of 2024, my heart was set on coming home to follow my dream.

I began searching for the perfect premises to open my first salon and was absolutely delighted to find it right here in my home town of Ramsbottom.

The inspiration behind the salon’s brand and feel comes from my own gorgeous dog, Rocco. He’s a Golden “Working” Labrador who joined our family in 2020 when he was re-homed from a Labrador Rescue Charity. He is the soul of this venture, and I’m very proud to say he was my very first official customer!

My vision for Fur By Freya is simple: to provide a calm, welcoming, and safe space where top-quality, gentle grooming leaves your best friend looking beautiful, feeling happy, and excited to walk through the door for their next pamper session.

I understand that grooming can be an anxious experience for some dogs. My salon is designed to be a sanctuary of calm. I use gentle handling techniques, positive reinforcement, and a patient approach to make even the most nervous dogs feel secure and cherished.

Unlike busy, noisy salons, your dog will have my undivided attention from the moment they arrive. Each appointment is exclusively one-on-one, ensuring a calm, focused, and personalised experience without the stress of other dogs or long waits in a cage.

You know your dog best. I’ll always take the time to listen to your needs and preferences, and I’m always happy to offer advice on how to maintain your dog’s coat at home. Think of me as your friendly, local partner in your dog’s care.
